University of California, Irvine
Emergency Medicine Interest Group

EMIG is an organization composed of UC Irvine medical students who are interested in pursuing careers in emergency medicine (EM). As one of the most active student groups at the UC Irvine School of Medicine, our aim is to connect medical students with information about EM residency and careers in EM. On this site, you will find information about what is going on in emergency medicine at UC Irvine as well as EM in general. We are excited to provide information about one of the newest and most dynamic medical specialties. Welcome to our site!

2011 AMA Foundation Health Living Grant Program

The 2011 AMA Foundation Healthy Living Grant Program, is supported in part by an unrestriceted grant from Purdue Pharma, L.P., provides grants to organizations who strive to improve health through projects that address healthy lifestyle issues. Out of a pool of over 500, roughly 25 programs are selected to receive funding. Due to the incredibly competitive nature of this grant, EMIG has not been able to secure this grant for the past two years. This year the funds will go towards our "Not Just Another Drink" event as well as accompanying outreach activities. EMIG would like to thank the UCI Emergency Department for all their support and encouragement. Additionally, we would like to thank our VP of Finance, Abbas Haider, for his excellent work.

First Annual EMIG Social

The EMIG Social held on August 31st was a success! About 30 medical students enjoyed the opportunity to mingle over appetizers at the Anthill Pub. EMIG board members including Hal Jakle, Kiah Bertoglio, Abbas Haider, Marlon Maducdoc, and Kathleen Laning were present to answer questions and share information about EMIG with the students. A special thanks to Dr. Lotfipour and UCI Resident, Dr. Rod Mortazavi who were very helpful in talking with and providing advice to UCI students interested in EM.
